National Singapore Museum

This trip to the National Singapore Museum was truely enlightening. I helped me speculate how people lived in Singapore many years ago. The many artefacts on display were vey unique and had years of authentic history embedded in them. I was also quite amazed on how people dressewd and what they ate in the past.

EARTH HOUR!

During Earth Hour, I switched off all the lights and most of the other electrical appliances. Through this, I learnt to value our natural resources more. It quite boring though, as I had nothing to do with the television switvhed off. I simply sat on the sofa like a couch potatoe with nothing to do.

AFTER CLASS TEST 1

As said, it is not the end of the world and the true test is yet to come. Although I had expected more from myself and am rather disappointed now, I will not be discouraged and will continue to work diligently. I am quite satisfied with my Mathematics (96/100) and Tamil (85.5/90) score[close to targets]. But am unfortunately unhappy with my Science (79.5) as well English (76.5) score[somewhat far from targets]. I guess that I did not to very well for English and Science as the paper was tough. Looking on the brighter side of things, I am elated to be withing the top 3 pupils for each subject.

From my knowledge, most students[as far as our class is concerned] did not do very well. Hence, if this was a PSLE paper, the average and Standard deviation would most likely be low, raising my marks and cushioning the drop fairly well.

Overall I am very disappointed in myself an will do whatever it takes to achieve good results. This is truly a "blow" for me as it was totally unexpected. From now onwards, I will certainly put in way more effort in my work and strive towards my targets. I am also determined to reclaim myself in the coming SA1.

SINGAPORE EDUCATION SYSTEM

I truly agree that Singapore has a very competitive and sometimes stressful education system. It maybe hard to cope with it once in a while, but sometimes, I feel that its just for the better. Although our education system causes unduly stress to parents, teacher and even students, it helps many strive and excel during international competitions. There is also a phrase "Ugly Singaporeans" which refers to the 'kiasu', typical study methods such as simply memorising facts and the competitive attitude. Instead of the traditional paper and pen, I think that pupils should be assessed in other forms such as hands on activities and even group work. This will also build up the essential skill of 'getting along' and 'the team spirit' which is the area most pupils lack in. Critical and lateral thinking skill would also be build this way. I strongly believe that many come to Singapore to pursue studies although it is stressful because it has a very systematic way of handling situations. It also has a good way of monitoring pupil's results with constant tests and examinations. Overall, in my opinion, I think that Singapore has a rather sound and secure education system with its pros and cons. I mean after all nothing can be perfect and I guess we just have to give and take.

Activities Outside School

I normally go for a swim on Saturday mornings. Sometimes I even go jogging practically every Sunday evenings. I also never fail to spend at least one and a half hours revising as doing work diligently. I am sure that exercising regularly will keep me fit as well as increase my perseverance level. I have recently read up on an artical which states how studies have shown that sports inproves children's studies.Unlike most people, I do not have tuition as I strongly believe that I am able to manage my education on my own. I will also be able to clarify certain doubts with my fellow friend as well as teachers.

WHAT IS TOTAL DEFENCE?
Total defence is just around the corner and it is important for us to know what it is all about. One of the five aspects of total defence is military defence. It is an essential aspect of total defence as it ensures the safety of Singapore citizens in war times. Civil Defence is another aspect of total defence as it is about taking care of your family, friends, and people around you in times of crisis. Economic defence, the third aspect of total defence, is about people upgrading their skills and knowledge to stay employed in this rapidly advancing island. Another aspect of total defence it social defence. This refers to when people of different races stick together and live in harmony, looking out for each other in tough times. The last aspect of total defence is psychological defence. It is put in place when Singaporeans are loyal to their country. It is also bout having the resilience to break through tough times such as economic crisis which we aer facing right now.

WHAT I WANT TO DEFEND?
Among all the things I have, I will definitely value and defend my loving and caring family. They have been there for me when I needed them the most and have supported my my whole life. In my opinion my parents ,who ensure a good and strong education, deserve more than just money- something which money cannot buy; love, care and concern.
I will also defend my muti-racial friends who have always been willing to lend a helping hand when I am in need. They are also ever-ready to listen to my problems and help me resolve them with an effective solution.

In order to achieve these Targets, I will work very hard, spend at least 2 hours studying each day and spend less time on other leisure activities. I will also ensure that I have a balance study time for each subject as doing well in one and horribly in another is pointless. I strongly feel that it is also essential for me to keep fit and make the fullest of my time. There is no use in regretting and 'crying over spilled milk' after the results are out. I mean after all its just another 9 months or so. I will also read more books this year as I am confident that it will expand my range of vocabulary and improve my English effectively. I will read and equal amount of Mother Tongue books as it improve my Tamil Language as well. I am sure that I will experience the fruit of my labour if persevere as work diligently now.

Hi friends, I finally back after a long break. Sorry, I couldn't update my blog recently due to the stressful SA2. Hope that all of you are satisfied and not disheartened by your results. But remember, there's always a chance to prove yourself next year's examinations. I am quite pleased with my results up to date but am a little disappointed with my Mathematics marks.

TARGETS FOR 2009

My target for the year 2009 is mainly to do well in my PSLE and get to a good secondary school. My aim is to get four A*s. But in order for me to accomplish that, I know that I must make many sacrifices and that it is very important for me to be diligent and not slack or get too complacent. I also wish to participate in many more competitions next year but be careful not to get too carried away.

I miss camp a lot! Thursday, I reached school around 7.00 am. I sat at the hall and waited as time crawled past…..After a long wait, Finally, at around 7.45, our instructors came. They took attendance and thengave us a really long……long…… brief; introduction of themselves and about camp. My instructor names wereJustin and Nisa. After that, we went up the buses and headed to JalanBahtera. There, we assembled sat at the MPH( Multi-Purpose Hall) and waited for the other teams to arrive. Once all the classes arrived at settled down, Chief Eunice gave us a short speech about the golden rules of camp. [similar to the briefing in sch]

Then , we headed to our dormitories to place our bags down.

After that, we went back to the MPH... Mr Tan briefed us about the Maths Trail. After that brief intro, we went around the whole campsite solving the tedious questions.

After the Trail, we returned to the MPH to hand in our booklet learn about a new game called "Kidnapped".

Yong was so called got "kidnapped" from our team. After around10 minutes, we found him hiding inside a shelter. His hands and legs were chained up. InstructorNisa took the chains out and made 6 boys carry him up the staircase and into the MPH. That was really hilarious. There,Chief Eunice asked us to say our group cheer. This is how it went: S-O-L-I-D, solid thats whatwe are! S-U-P-E-R super thats what we are, Super Solid *clap clap*Solid Super * clap clap*chikalala pia pia chikalala pia pia(ps for wrong spelling orhs) WARRIORS!... Chief Eunicecongratulated us and told us that we were fouth in place.
Then, We went for our first meal, our Lunch. Camp had a rule...We had to say the hungry cheerbefore eating our meals... this is how it went.

Instructor: Are You Hungryyy?

Children: Hungry Hungry*clap clap* Very very *clap clap*Very Hungry*clap clap* Hungry very*clapclap*chikalala pia pia chikalala pia pia JIA!( jia means eat I guess) and then everyone will dig in.Seriously, the food was'nt that good nor that bad... I just did'nt like the cold rice. After lunch,Justin brought us down to one of the huts. There, we sat down and waited for Justin to saysomething. Finally, he told us that we had to do something for our campfire performance. Dance,Sing or do a skit. First, we chose to sing...So, Justin respected our decision and asked us to waittime for ur rock climbing. Justin brought us down to the place where the rock wall was. I put onwas kinda scared at first as I have a phobia of heights. But, when i started climbing, It turned outnot to be that scary after all. Using all my strength and with the encouragement, I managed to climb to the top. I think I was kinda brave into not giving up as some of the group 9pupils gave up half-way.

After i reached the ground... I was like, sweating madly.Then i becameNisa was waiting fer us. When all of us arrived, Justin and Nisa brought us into the dining hall toeat our dinner. It was a LONqq wait... We only got to eat at around 8pm.. My rice was cold andkinda hard by then. After eatinqq, we brought 4 chairs down to the campfire area. We sat downand the campfire started. Mr Tan( principal) was also there. He was given the honour to light upthe campfire using the torch. Wow man! The fire was blazing greatly... 1 group had theircampfire performance , and then it was our turn. Nisa and Justin danced with us. Everyone waslike... staring at us and nothinqq else. After dancing, we did ourcheer and our 16 claps.

Then, we went back to our sits. Performances after performances... Finally,everyone had performed. Instructor “Monster” taught us a clap. It was called the Chief EuniceClap. Heres how it went. Action: hands make two balls... bigger one below. Then, BOOM! I'm likeLOLS! Then Chief Eunice was like Ahhhhs... and to take revenge, she taught us a monster clap.*clap* grrrrr I'm still like HAHHAHAHHS...All the instructors then taught us a new songcalled:Little Green Frog. Heres how it went. Mm hm goes a little green frog 1 day, Mh hm goes alittle green frog, Mm Hm goes a little green frog 1 day and they all go hm mm WAHHH. And allthe frogs go *clap* sha lalalala *clap* shalalala *clap* shalalala, and all the frogs go *clap*shalalala , And they all go mm hmm WAHHH. That was fun! lmaos.__." It was around 11.15everythinqq ended.

Then, we went carried the chairs up back to the dining hall and then ate oursupper( I did'nt take it as i was'nt hungry) I went up to my dormitry and rolled out my sleepingbag. Then, suddenly, we heard a male instructor shouting: Go tosleep boys! Stop talking!
sleep... At about 3.30, I managed to sleep for half an hour or so... I woke up at 6+, Packed mybag and waited for the rest to wake up. Then, we went to brush our teeth andchange into our PE attires. After that, we went back to our huts and packed our sleeping bags andstuff. The air was brisk and cool. We went to the carpark to waitfor our instructors. Nisa finally appeared, she collected our booklets and brought us to the dininghall for our duty.

After eating, wedid our duty at the clearing or rubbish area(Omqq..smelly lehs) After everyone left, we startedcleaning the tables and chairs. I also took up the broom to sweep some stuff... When it came toone part I was like: EWW!!! there was a lizard squirming about without it's tail... I swept it up and then threw it into the filthy dustbin. I went to where Justin andmost of us were. I took up one of the container covers and lined up. When it came to my turn, Iheld up the cover, and Justin washed it. While washing, he sprayed water on me... Thathappened to all of us who helped. We were all wet. No fear! We took revenge on Justin.. We tookout our waterbottles and chased after him, wetting him throughly. Everyone was like: HAHA(:Justin was soaking wet. Then, we took the dustbins out to the road, where there was even biggerRubbish bins. We helped Justin to pour the rubbish inside, and then went back to the dining hall.When everyone was done with theirarea cleaning, we settled in the MPH... Chief Eunice gave out prizes for the best boy + gal and thebest team. Guess what? 5.7's group 11 won the best team prize! xD Congratz ni men! The dayjust ended like that.We went back to school, and then went home. Now, I really miss camp,Justin + Nisa... I really wish i had remembered to take down their phone numbers. Hope I'll seethem again ... If I cud turn time back, I would really want to turn in back to camp time. Fondmemories will be kept in my heart<3...sniiff>

Other than leaving people with sleepy eyes, or sleeping at odd hours, it also heightens the risk for major illnesses, including cancer, heart disease, diabetes and obesity.Other researchers acknowledge that much more research is needed to prove that the apparent associations are real, and to fully understand how sleep disturbances may affect health. But they argue that the case is rapidly getting stronger that sleep is an important factor in many of the biggest killers.
Here is another reason to get children [like myself] to go to bed early. " More sleep may lower their risk of becoming obese".
Researchers have found that every additional hour per night a third-grader spends sleeping reduces the child's chances of being obese in sixth grade by 40%. Third graders are usually 8-9 years old; sixth graders are 11-12.
The less sleep they get, the more likely the children were to be obese in sixth grade, no matter what their weight was in third grade.

Well, as for me, I sleep on time every night, and make sure that I have at least 8 hours of sleep.

CYBER BULLYING

I think Cyberbullying is a very bad thing to do. In fact, it a great offence and we should Cyberbully under any circumstances.

When a person Cyberbullies he basically..........
1) Spreads rumors about someone
2) Hacking someone else's account
3) Mass forwarding of copyrighted images/video clips.
4) Giving privacy to others by not letting out the secrets

In my opinion, I believe that Cyberbullying in only for COWARDS. Also, the people who Cyberbully usually have bullied once or are being bullied. Another cause of Cyberbulling is that it is thought to be "cool" amongst most offenders or it could also be because the offender wishes to take "revenge" on someone ( victim).

You can stop Cyberbulling by flaging the blog post and soon the blog will be deleted or suspended. On the other hand if the promblem is very minor, then you should simply tell an adult or ignore.

NE Show 2008

Just 4 days ago my classmates and I witnessed the spectacular National Day Preview along with many other P5 student from other various Schools. At 2.00p.m. sharp, all of us had gathered in the Hall feeling exceedingly excited. After a long wait,(of hearing National day songs) the bus finally arrived and we left to the Marina Bay!!!(floating platform) All of us just simply couldn't wait!!! We were just too excited. Soon, after what seemed like eternity, the Parade finally begun. It had started with loud bang (literally a BANG!!!). There was dancing and singing and soon, we had all joined in the fun!=D Time flew past and it the sun had almost set. Just as I thought that the Parade was coming to a boring end, a spectacular firework display took place. I was truly an amazing sight to behold. After that wonderful day spent with fellow classmates, we had to return to school and back home. But had to admit that it one of the best event that has took place throughout this entire year so far. Now, all I lo0k forward to is the........P5 CAMP!!!!!

Our School Canteen

The school canteen is a wonderous place to eat chat and have fun with friends. But who knows what secrets lie within those stalls..... Some have said to have seen lizard tails in delicious bowls of laksa while others have said to have seen roaches in the popular fried rice. Although most the food and drink items may not be very healthy to consume everyday, I feel that the school canteen is a very safe place to eat. There are still some healthy stuff sold by the stall vendors such as freshly cut pieces of fruits.

My Ambition

Title: Nelly the Monster Sitter

Author: Kes Gray

This book is about a girl called Nelly. She is always baby-sittling Monsters and getting into trouble. She is also destened to get Monsters of all kind out of trouble. But unfortunatey, she has a twin sister called Asti who hates the Monsters and would do anything to get rid of them!!! Once, when Nelly was baby-sitting a baby Monster, its little tooth broke off. Then Nelly suggested that it placed its broken tooth under its pillow hoping that the tooth fariy would come. But lady luck was not on their side because instead of a tooth fairy, into the room came an Evil Tooth Monster!!! The Evil Tooth Monster then stole the baby monster's tooth and ran away into the wrlem on darkness ( a place where evil monsters hide). Now, Nelly and the baby monster are on a quest to find the Evil Tooth Monster and the stolen tooth. Well, next........ I guess I shall not tell you what happens next and leave it for you to read the book and find out yourselves.

Chinese New Year

Last week was Chinese New Year.Although I do not celebrate Chinese New Year, I was a good long break for me. I had lots of fun too as I got to go to the Singapore Zoological Gardens. I saw many interesting animals there but the one that I especially liked was the cheetah. It is the fastest animal in the world and I find it spotty fur very nice and unique. I also enjoyed seeing one of the zoologist going up and close to feed the crocs. It was a great experience watching the whole process. After that, we went to the elephant exhibit where there was a show going on. The was very interesting with a total of 4 elephants lifting heavy logs and performing cool stunts such as balancing on 1 leg while squirting water all over the audience with it's long trunk. Although I was soaked to my skin, I found it a very great experience. That was the most unforgettable evening if my life.

First Day of School

It has been almost a week. Since school had started. And was really excited and anxious about who was going to be my teacher, will I meet new friends and many more. All these questions were rushing through my head. I was extremely excited. At about 7:30 a.m. in morning we left the 'Parade Square' to our respective classrooms. And What a co-incidence we were assigned to the same classroom as last year!!! Since I was quite familiar and used to the environment, I quickly adapted to the surroundings and started to feel more comfortable. And I am sure that this is a GREAT start of a New Year!!! :)
